I had always been intrigued as to how both my parents had the same surname as I knew that their two families were not closely related. Eventually curiosity get the better of me and, having a bit more time after taking early retirement, I started researching my family tree.
That was over 20 years ago when little could be found on the Internet and I spent many hours in the Suffolk Record Office peering at microfiche and reels of film. On an occasional visit to London, I also managed to search for births, deaths and marriages from the bound indexes at the Family Records Centre in London and also visited the Metropolitan Archives so my quest took some considerable time.
Now it is so much easier and about 7 years ago I managed to find the final link and discovered that the common ancestors were John Lummis and his wife Ester Dickerson who were married in Stoke Ash in 1713. My parents were married in the same church so the family did not travel far!
The chart below shows their ancestry with the common ancestors annotated.
